General Kodendera Subayya Thimayya, an illustrious figure in Indian military history, served as the third Chief of Army Staff (COAS) from 1957 to 1967, a pivotal period leading up to the 1962 conflict with China.

General Thimayya’s exceptional accomplishments include being the sole Indian to command an infantry brigade during World War II, earning him the distinction of India’s most distinguished combat officer.

Thimayya’s ancestral residence in Madikeri, known as Sunny Side, has been lovingly transformed into a memorial museum to honour and commemorate his extraordinary life.

These historic battles underscore the strategic importance and effectiveness of Indian T-55 tanks during these conflicts.
